- 1 box of German chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
- 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- Extra pecans or coconut for garnish
- Chocolate shavings for garnish
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat for 2 minutes until well blended.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Once cooled for about 20 minutes, poke holes throughout the cake using the handle of a wooden spoon.
- Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, letting it soak into the holes.
- For the topping, heat evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and butter in a saucepan until thickened. Stir in coconut and nuts if desired.
- Spread the frosting over the cooled cake and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
