  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp fine salt
  • 1 cup coarse sanding sugar
  • 48 orange sweetheart or conversation heart candies – cut in half
  • Round, flat, black sprinkles
  • Round, flat, pink sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together unsalted butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add granulated sugar, egg, and vanilla; mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  4. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets and flatten slightly. Bake for about 13 minutes until edges are firm but centers remain soft.
  5. Let cool on wire racks before decorating with buttercream frosting and sprinkles.
