  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 bag Kraft caramels
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 16-ounce can chocolate frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water according to package directions.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 15 minutes until slightly set.
  4. While baking, melt the caramels with butter and evaporated milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat until smooth.
  5. Remove the first layer from the oven and pour the caramel mixture over it. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and pecans.
  6. Pour the remaining batter over the caramel layer and bake for an additional 20 minutes until set.
  7. Allow to cool completely before frosting with chocolate frosting.
