- 2 pounds ground beef (80% fat, 20% lean)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 4 cheese slices
- 4 burger buns
- Desired toppings (lettuce, tomato, red onion, avocado, condiments)
Instructions
- Prepare your smoker by setting it up with a water pan and preheating it to 225°F using mesquite or hickory wood.
- Divide the ground beef into four equal balls and shape them into patties slightly larger than the buns. Press a thumb indention in the center of each patty.
- Season both sides of each patty with a mix of salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
- Place the patties in the smoker and close the lid. Smoke until they reach an internal temperature of about 115°F for rare.
- Add cheese on top of each patty and continue smoking until reaching your desired doneness (135°F for medium rare).
- Let the burgers rest for five minutes before assembling them on buns with your favorite toppings.
